Jotunheimen National Park
Park Overview
Högfjell area in the counties Oppland and Sogn og Fjordane. 914 206 daa of the area is located in Oppland. Located on the transition between eastern and western mountain environment, central to the Caledonian mountain range. Mountain range with peaks and glaciers. Norway's highest mountain, Galdhøpiggen (2469 m asl), lies within the park. The area has many lakes. Gende is the biggest. Several mountain plants have their height limit here. Lots of wild reindeer in West Jotunheimen, domestic reindeer in Lom and Vågå. Several old trapping systems. Jotunheimen has some of the most typical wild and alpine mountain formations in Norway, characterized by both eastern and western mountain nature. Lush, low lying valleys, distinctive watercourses, a variety of glaciers and the highest mountains in Northern Europe are found here within a relatively confined area. There are scientific scientific interests in geology, limnology, botany and zoology. In the west lives a wild reindeer. In the area there is the cultural heritage that comes from the trappers who followed the reindeer when the breane drew eighths, stone arches, rooftops and fishing grounds. Parts of Jotunheimen have great value as pasture for domestic reindeer and cattle. Large mountain masses and pointed peaks are what characterize Jotunheimen. It is claimed that Jotunheimen is the most mountainous landscape in Norway. All the mountain peaks in the country which are over 2300 meters, a total of 23, are in the national park. The top 5 are Galdhøpiggen (2469 meters), Glittertind (2465 meters), Store Skagastølstind (2403 meters), Store Styggedalstind (2387 meters) and Skarstind (2373 meters). In Jotunheimen many of the breane are in Norway, and the area covers about 10% of the total area in Norway. The largest glacier in Jotunheimen is Smørstabbreen (about 15 km2). Then come the Vestre Memurububre (about 13 km2), Hellstugubreen (about 12 km2) and Veobreen (about 11 km2). Breane is essentially a combination between botanbre and valleys. From the breane comes the bream sludge that gave a distinctive green color on many rivers and lakes. Breane, especially farthest west of Jotunheimen, increased last in the 1990s. All the breane have gone back strongly in recent years. Jotunheimen has several Norwegian altar records for mountain plants. The highest is the ice sole, which is found at Glittertind up to about 2370 meters Raudsildre and rose root is found up to about 2300 meters At a site with chalky ground, alternate ma rein pink and mogop.
